What you get when you book movers by the hour

Everything except the vehicle. The crew turns up with the gear, not just a pair of hands.

  • Trained removalists, not casual labour sent from an agency
  • Trolleys, dollies and stair climbers brought with the crew
  • Furniture blankets and straps for wrapping and securing the load
  • Proper load planning, so the truck is packed tight and nothing shifts
  • Floor and doorframe protection at both ends
  • Furniture dismantling where something won’t fit through a doorway
  • Public liability insurance covering the crew on your site
  • Workers compensation — they’re our employees, not your responsibility
  • A firm arrival time, not a window
  • Free rescheduling if your truck hire date moves

Worth being clear about

This is a removals crew, not a staffing agency

Labour hire usually means an agency sends you workers and you supervise them, insure the arrangement and carry the risk. That isn’t what this is.

The people who turn up are UNN employees doing UNN removals work, supervised by us and covered by our public liability and workers compensation. You tell us what needs moving and where it’s going. You’re a customer, not an employer for the day.

The only thing missing compared to a full move is the truck — because you’ve already got one.

Trained movers, not general labourers

There’s a real difference between someone strong and someone who knows how to get a fridge down a staircase without wearing it. Our crews do this every day.

The gear comes with them

Trolleys, stair climbers, blankets and straps arrive with the crew. Hiring a truck rarely gets you any of it, and moving without it is how floors and furniture get damaged.

Loading is a skill, not just lifting

A truck packed properly fits more and arrives with nothing broken. A badly loaded one shifts on the first roundabout. This is most of what you’re paying for.

Insurance sits with us

Public liability covers our crew working at your property, and they’re covered by our workers compensation rather than yours. Ask any labour provider to confirm both in writing.

Common jobs

When people hire movers without a truck

You’ve hired a truck

Hiring the vehicle and booking the labour separately often works out cheaper than a full move.

Containers & moving pods

A pod gets dropped in the driveway and someone still has to fill it properly.

Unloading at the other end

You drove it yourself. We’ll take it off the truck and put it where it goes.

Moving things within a house

Rearranging rooms, clearing a space for flooring, or getting a lounge into the garage.

One heavy item

A safe, a fridge or a lounge that two people at home genuinely shouldn’t attempt.

Loading a backload

The truck arrives and departs on a schedule. We make sure it leaves loaded properly.

Business & warehouse

Stock shifts, event setups and office reshuffles that need hands for a few hours.

Clearing an estate

Family has the trailer and the plan, and needs the lifting done properly.

Pricing

How labour hire is priced

Charged hourly per mover with a minimum booking, so a two-hour unload costs a two-hour unload. No truck means no vehicle charge and no travel-time component for the truck.

That’s the part you’re saving on

Is hiring a truck plus labour actually cheaper?

Sometimes, and it’s worth doing the sum honestly. Add up the truck hire, the fuel, the insurance excess, the kilometre charge and the fact that you’re driving a large vehicle through Sydney traffic for the first time. Then compare it to a full move where all of that is one number.

Labour hire wins clearly in three situations: you already have a vehicle, you only need one end of the job done, or you’re not moving house at all and just need heavy things shifted. For a standard two or three-bedroom move across the city, a full home removal usually costs about the same and takes far less of your day.

Tell your coordinator what you’re planning and they’ll quote both so you can compare properly rather than guessing.

How it works

How a labour-only booking runs

  1. Tell us the job

What’s moving, what vehicle you’ve got and how long you think it’ll take. Quote back within two hours.

  2. We advise the crew size

Two movers suits most jobs. If what you’ve described needs three, we’ll say so — an undersized crew just costs more hours.

  3. Crew arrives with the gear

Trolleys, blankets and straps come with them. Have the vehicle on site and a clear path to the door.

  4. Loaded properly

Wrapped, stacked tight and strapped so it travels safely. You drive, we’ve done the hard part.

Why UNN

Four things a labour provider should give you

  1. On-time guarantee

Truck hire is booked by the hour. A crew that turns up late costs you twice.

  2. Real-time GPS tracking

See where the crew is instead of standing next to a hired truck wondering.

  3. No cancellation fees

Truck hire fell through or the settlement moved? Change the booking at no charge.

  4. One dedicated coordinator

The same person who quoted it briefs the crew on what they’re walking into.

Questions

Labour hire questions, answered

How much does removalist labour hire cost?
It’s charged hourly per mover with a minimum booking, and there’s no vehicle charge because you’re supplying the vehicle. Crew size, how long the job runs and the access at each end set the total. Tell us what’s moving and what you’ve hired and we’ll quote within two hours.
Can I book just one mover?
Two is our practical minimum for furniture work. Most household items genuinely need two people to move safely, and a single mover attempting them is how backs and doorframes get damaged. For light boxes only, ask and we’ll talk through whether one makes sense.
How many movers do I actually need?
Two handles most one and two-bedroom loads. Three is worth it for a three-bedroom house, anything with a lot of stairs, or when the truck has to be turned around quickly. Undersizing the crew rarely saves money because the job simply takes proportionally longer — tell us the details and we’ll give you an honest answer.
Do you bring trolleys and equipment?
Yes, always. Trolleys, dollies, stair climbers, furniture blankets and straps come with the crew. Truck hire companies rarely supply any of it, and loading a truck without blankets and straps is the most common reason things arrive damaged.
Do I need to be there?
Someone needs to be on site to say what’s going and where it goes, and to handle the vehicle. It doesn’t have to be you — a family member, friend or agent is fine. Just tell your coordinator who it will be.
Is my furniture insured if I drive it myself?
Worth being precise about this. Our public liability covers our crew’s work at your property, and our workers compensation covers them. What we can’t insure is your load in transit in your vehicle, because it isn’t our truck and we aren’t driving it. Check what your truck hire agreement covers before you book, and if in-transit cover matters to you, a full move is the safer option.
Can you help me load a shipping container or moving pod?
Yes, and it’s a job worth doing properly. Containers and pods have to be packed tight to the walls and roof, with weight distributed and everything strapped, because the load shifts on the road and again when the unit is lifted. A badly packed container is far more likely to arrive with damage than a badly packed truck.
Can you move furniture around inside my house?
Yes. Rearranging rooms, clearing a space for flooring or painting, getting a lounge into the garage, moving a bed upstairs. It’s a common booking and usually a short one. Floors get protected before anything starts.
Do you supply general labourers for other work?
No. We supply removals crews doing removals work — lifting, loading, unloading and furniture handling. We’re not a labour hire agency and don’t supply workers for construction, warehousing or general site work.
Can I book at short notice?
Often, yes. Labour-only bookings are easier to fit in than full moves because they need a crew rather than a crew and a truck. Call and we’ll tell you what’s available — see same day moves if it’s today.
Which suburbs do you cover?
Anywhere in the Sydney metro, from our Parramatta base. Because there’s no truck involved, crews reach most jobs quickly, and western and north-western suburbs are the fastest.
