Almost nothing breaks because a truck braked hard. It breaks because a carton was packed badly — too heavy, half empty, or with the wrong things touching each other.

Professional packing isn’t about wrapping everything in more bubble wrap. It’s about weight distribution, filling voids so nothing shifts, and knowing which items have to be packed a specific way or they won’t survive being stacked.

Plates go in on edge, never flat

Stacked flat, the bottom plate carries the weight of everything above it and cracks. Standing on edge, each one supports itself. It’s the single most common breakage in a self-packed move.

Nothing over about 20 kilos

Books go in small cartons and linen goes in big ones, not the other way around. Overloaded cartons split at the base or get dropped, and both end badly.

Screens, mirrors and art travel flat-packed

Packing gets all the attention because it has a deadline. Unpacking doesn’t, which is exactly why cartons are still stacked in the spare room at Christmas.

We unpack into the cupboards, not onto the floor. Crockery into the kitchen, clothes into the wardrobes, books onto the shelves. The difference between a house you’re living in and a house full of open boxes is usually one afternoon of work you never get around to.

You can have all of it or just the parts that matter on night one — beds made, kitchen functional, bathroom sorted — and do the rest at your own pace.

The cartons go too. We flatten and take away the empties, either the same day or on a return visit once you’ve worked through them. Nobody should be driving cardboard to the tip a fortnight after moving.

Is it worth paying someone to pack?

Packing a three-bedroom house properly takes most people two to three full weekends, and that’s if nobody gets distracted by a photo album. A packing crew does the same house in a day because it’s all they do.

The honest answer is that it depends on what your weekends are worth to you. If you’ve got time and you’re careful, self-packing saves real money and we’ll happily just sell you the cartons. How much does packing cost in Sydney?
Packing is charged hourly by the number of packers, with materials quoted separately so you only pay for the cartons you use. The size of the home, how much you want packed and how much fragile content there is all set the hours. Bundled with the move it works out cheaper than booking two jobs. How long does it take to pack a house?
A crew packs roughly a room an hour on general contents, slower through kitchens and anywhere with a lot of china or glass. A two-bedroom unit is usually half a day, a three-bedroom house most of a day, four bedrooms and up can run into a second day. We scale the crew so it finishes when we said it would.
Do you pack the day before or on moving day?
Usually the day before, so moving day is loading rather than packing and loading. That keeps the truck time down and removes the risk of the move running late because the kitchen took longer than expected. Smaller homes can be packed and moved the same day.
Can you just pack the fragile things?
Yes, and it’s the most popular option. Most people are happy to do books, linen and wardrobes but don’t want to face the kitchen, the glassware and the artwork. We’ll do exactly that portion and leave the rest to you.
Do you supply the boxes?
Yes. Professional double-walled cartons, port-a-robes for hanging clothes, screen and picture cartons, butchers paper, bubble wrap, tape and labels, all delivered before packing day. You can also buy materials on their own if you’d rather pack yourself.
What happens to the empty boxes afterwards?
We flatten and collect them, either the same day if we’ve unpacked, or on a return visit once you’ve worked through them. You shouldn’t be driving flattened cardboard to a recycling centre a fortnight after moving.
Do I need to be home while you pack?
It helps at the start so you can point out anything you want handled differently, anything that isn’t coming, and where the essentials box should end up. After that you don’t have to hover. Plenty of people leave for work and come back to a packed house.
What should I keep out of the packing?
Passports, jewellery, medication, cash, house keys, chargers and anything you’ll need on the first night. Set them aside before we arrive or tell the packers which drawer is off limits. We also can’t pack aerosols, paint, chemicals, fuel or anything perishable.
Do you unpack as well?
Yes, and it’s worth booking. We unpack into the cupboards rather than onto the floor — crockery into the kitchen, clothes into wardrobes, books onto shelves. You can have the full unpack or just the essentials so the beds are made and the kitchen works on night one.
Are professionally packed items insured?
Yes, cover applies to everything we pack. It’s worth knowing that across the industry, cartons packed by the customer are usually treated differently from cartons packed by the removalist, because nobody can verify how something was packed inside a sealed box. If you’re moving anything valuable or breakable, having us pack it is the cleaner position.
Do you pack differently for storage or interstate?
Yes. A load going into storage or across the country sits packed for weeks or months rather than two hours, so cartons are filled tighter, void fill matters more and nothing goes in that can leak or attract pests. Tell us where it’s headed when you book.
Can you pack an office?
Yes, though commercial packing uses labelled reusable crates rather than cartons, colour-coded to the new floor plan. That’s covered under office removals, along with workstation and IT handling.
Do you cover North Sydney and the lower North Shore?
Yes, it’s one of our busier areas for packing work. Most of it is apartments, so materials are delivered in a single trip through the service lift rather than in stages, and packing day is booked around the building’s access window. Tell us the building when you book and we’ll arrange that side.
Should I just pack myself and save the money?
If you have the time and you’re careful, genuinely yes — and we’ll sell you proper cartons so you’re not using supermarket boxes that collapse when stacked. Packing a three-bedroom house properly takes most people two to three weekends. If you’re working through the move or short on notice, handing over the kitchen alone removes most of the pain for a fraction of a full pack.
How far in advance should I book packing?
Two to three weeks, and book it at the same time as the move so the two are locked together. Packing crews and truck crews are scheduled separately, so a late packing booking can end up on a different day from the one you wanted.
