Home Removals in Melbourne

Home removals in Melbourne rarely go wrong at the truck. They go wrong at the kerb. A permit nobody applied for. A lift window nobody booked. A terrace street the truck cannot sit in. We sort that side first, then move you with our own insured crew.

Permits, lifts and laneways in Melbourne

Access is the part most quotes skip. In Melbourne it is usually the part that decides the day.

  • Council parking permits

Inner Melbourne streets often need a permit before a truck can sit there. The City of Melbourne runs a reserved parking permit. A removal truck normally takes more than one bay. Each inner council sets its own fees and lead times, so Yarra is not Port Phillip. Approval is not instant. Tell us the street when you book and we lodge it.

  • Lift and dock bookings

CBD, Southbank and Docklands towers run on a booked lift and a booked dock. The window is fixed. Miss it and you do not lose an hour, you lose the slot. Sometimes until the next weekend. We book both with building management first.

  • Single-fronted terraces

Fitzroy, Carlton, Collingwood and Richmond were built before trucks. Narrow hallways, no off-street parking, and a rear lane that may not take a vehicle. We size the crew for the carry, not just the volume. The lane gets checked before we quote.

  • Certificate of currency

Most buildings want written proof of public liability cover before a crew passes the lobby. We send ours to building management ahead of the day. Nobody stands in the foyer chasing paperwork.

Homes we move across Melbourne

  • Single-fronted terraces

Narrow hall, tight stair turn, nowhere to park. The classic inner-north job.

  • Californian bungalows

Wide rooms and heavy old furniture. Usually a driveway, which helps.

  • 1930s walk-up flats

Two or three storeys and no lift. We bring the crew that needs.

  • High-rise apartments

Southbank and Docklands towers. Booked lift, booked dock, strict window.

  • Townhouses

Three levels and a staircase that turns twice. Wardrobes come apart.

  • New estate homes

Tarneit, Melton, Cranbourne. Big volume, easy access, longer drive.

  • Warehouse conversions

Goods lifts, shared loading bays and oversized pieces to manoeuvre.

  • Share houses

Part loads, separate drop-offs, split invoices. We do all three.

Moving out of a rental in Victoria

Victoria gives renters more runway than most states. A renter ending a fixed-term agreement, or a periodic one, gives 28 days notice to vacate. In New South Wales the same notice can be 14 or 21 days.

That extra fortnight is the biggest advantage Melbourne renters have. Most people spend it deciding rather than booking. Lock a date as soon as you lodge the notice. Moving it later costs nothing with 24 hours warning.

Some grounds drop the notice to 14 days. A property unfit to live in. A rental provider breaching a VCAT order. A move into social housing. If that is you, say so when you call. We hold capacity back for short notice work.

End of lease cleaning is the other half of getting the bond back. We run it as a separate service and book both in the same week. The clean happens after the truck leaves, not around it.

How much home removals cost in Melbourne

Hourly for local work. Regional and interstate get a fixed price once we know the volume. These are the things that shift it.

  • Crew

    2 to 4 movers

    Matched to the property

  • Trucks

    4–6T and 8–10T

    Tracked and blanket-lined

  • Typical duration

3 hrs to a full day

Unit through to a large house

  • How it is priced

    Hourly, local moves

    Fixed for regional runs

What actually makes a Melbourne move cheaper

Cheap usually means fewer movers. Fewer movers means more hours. The invoice lands in much the same place, with more of your day gone. We size the crew to the job instead.

Three things genuinely cut the total. A midweek date, flexible timing, and packing yourself. Your coordinator will say which ones apply to your move.

What affects your quote

  • Access at both ends

Stairs, lifts, the carry, and where a truck can legally sit.

  • Permits

Inner-council permits add cost and lead time.

  • Size of the home

Bedrooms and rough volume set the crew and truck.

  • Distance

Outer corridors add real drive time at both ends.

  • Packing

You pack, we pack the fragiles, or we pack the lot.

  • Timing

End of month and weekends fill first, every month.

The right truck for the size of the house

4–6 tonne

Units and small homes. Narrow enough for an inner-north street without blocking it.

8–10 tonne

Three to five bedrooms, or a regional Victorian run in one load.

Tracked

You see the truck on a map. No four hour window to sit through.

Kitted out

Wrap, blankets, straps, skates, stair climbers and floor runners on board.

How your house move runs

  1. 01 Step

    Send us the details

Bedrooms, both addresses, your date, and whatever is awkward about the access. A written price comes back the same morning.

  2. 02 Step

    We plan the day

Your coordinator books the crew and truck. We lodge the council permit and confirm the lift and dock window.

  3. 03 Step

    On the day

Crew arrive inside your slot, wrap everything and load. The tracking link shows you where they are.

  4. 04 Step

    Into the new place

Furniture goes where you want it and gets rebuilt. Boxes land in the right rooms.

Four things you should not have to ask for

  1. Permits and lifts, handled

We lodge the permit and book the building. Not you, on the morning.

  2. Our crew, on our payroll

Insured and trained. Not a subbie network with a logo on the door.

  3. Track the truck

A live link on the day. Handy when the run comes from across town.

  4. Dates move, fees do not

Give us 24 hours and change it. Nothing extra to pay.

We move houses anywhere in Melbourne

Metro wide, bay to the outer corridors. Melton is the fastest-growing council area in the country. The western and south-eastern estates carry a lot of our weekend work. Those runs add real drive time at both ends. We put that in the quote, not on the bill.

Home removals questions, answered

How much do home removals in Melbourne cost?
Local moves run hourly with a two hour minimum. Access moves the price more than distance does. A Tarneit house with a driveway is one job. A Fitzroy terrace with no parking is another. Send both addresses and the property size for a written price.
Do I need a parking permit for the truck?
In the inner city, usually. The City of Melbourne runs a reserved parking permit, and a truck normally needs more than one bay. Each inner council sets its own fees and lead times. Tell us the street and we lodge it.
Do I need to book weeks in advance?
No. Same day moving is one of our services, so a job booked this morning is ordinary work here. Booking ahead only matters if you want a particular date. End of month and Saturdays fill first.
Can you move on a weekend?
Yes, and most house moves are weekends. We work 6am to 10pm, seven days. Saturdays book out earliest, so flag the date as soon as you have one.
How long does a three-bedroom move take?
Usually most of a day with a three-person crew. Stairs, a long carry to the truck, or packing still in progress are what stretch it. We give a time range in the written quote.
Do you dismantle and reassemble furniture?
Yes, and it is in the quote rather than added later. Beds, wardrobes, dining tables and desks come apart and go back together. Flat pack that was glued at build is the one exception.
Can you move me into a high-rise apartment?
Yes. CBD, Southbank and Docklands towers are a big part of our work. We book the service lift and the dock. The certificate of currency goes to building management before the day.
What is a certificate of currency and do I need one?
It is written proof of our public liability cover. You do not need one. Your building manager often does, before they let a crew past the lobby. We send it on request, free.
Do you supply boxes and packing materials?
Yes, dropped off before packing day. Cartons, paper, bubble wrap, tape, labels, port-a-robes and covers. Anything you do not open comes off the invoice.
Are my belongings insured?
Every job carries $1M public liability and goods in transit cover. One covers the building, the other covers what we are carrying. Cartons you packed yourself sit under different terms to cartons we packed.
What happens if something gets damaged?
Tell the crew before they drive off and get it noted. Then send it to your coordinator in writing with photos. You deal with the same person throughout, not a claims queue.
Do you charge extra for stairs?
No surcharge for stairs. Stairs do affect the quote, because a third floor walk-up takes longer than a driveway. We price the time, not a penalty.
Can you store my things between settlements?
Yes. We collect, store and redeliver on your date. It is the usual fix when the sale and the purchase do not line up.
Do you move to regional Victoria?
Yes. Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, the Surf Coast and the Mornington Peninsula are regular runs. Regional moves are quoted as a fixed price rather than hourly.
What can you not move?
Anything hardwired needs a licensed electrician. Gas appliances need a licensed gasfitter. Refrigerant work needs an ARC licence. We also decline hazardous goods, fuel and ammunition.
Can I reschedule if my settlement moves?
Yes, as often as you need, with 24 hours notice. The $50 deposit holds against the new date. Settlement dates slip constantly and we would rather move with you.
Do I have to be there on the day?
Someone does, at both ends, to direct where things go and sign off at the end. It does not have to be you. Plenty of people send a family member or a friend.
How and when do I pay?
A $50 deposit holds a local date and comes off the total. The balance is due on completion. Card and bank transfer both work, and you get an itemised invoice.
