Packing and Moving in Melbourne
Packers and movers for Melbourne homes and offices. We pack the lot, or just the kitchen and the fragile things. Same crew packs, loads and unpacks, so nobody is handing your glassware to a stranger halfway through.
What's included in a packing service
Everything in the list below sits inside the quote. None of it appears later.
- Cartons dropped before packing day in the sizes the job needs
- Butchers paper, bubble wrap and tape as much as it takes
- Port-a-robes so hanging clothes stay on the hanger
- Every carton labelled by room and by what is inside
- Fragile items wrapped individually not bundled together
- A packing inventory you can check against at the other end
- Our own packers police-checked and on our payroll
- Public liability and transit cover on what we pack
- Anything unopened comes off the invoice
- Flattened empties collected once you have unpacked

What actually breaks, and how we stop it
Almost nothing breaks in the truck. It breaks in the carton, and it breaks on the stairs.
-
Terrace stairs set the carton size
A single-fronted terrace with a turning staircase will not take a big heavy carton safely. So we pack smaller and carry more often. More trips, fewer drops, and a crew who can actually see over what they are holding.
-
Glassware stands up, in cells
Stemware laid on its side snaps at the stem under the weight of the next layer. Everything with a stem goes upright in a celled carton, wrapped one piece at a time. It takes longer and it is the reason you still have a full set at the other end.
-
Screens travel upright
A flat-screen laid down flexes across the middle. The damage shows up the first time you turn it on. TVs and monitors go upright in a purpose-made carton, strapped so they cannot shift.
-
Art and mirrors get corners
Glass fails at the edge, not in the middle. Framed work goes into a flat pack with corner protection and travels standing between padded uprights. Anything oversized gets a built crate.
How much of it do you want to do?
-
Full pack
We pack everything. You go to work and come home to a packed house.
-
Part pack
You do the easy rooms. We take the kitchen, the study and the wardrobes.
-
Fragiles only
Glass, crockery, art and screens. The things worth paying someone for.
-
Kitchen only
The room everyone underestimates. Usually a full day on its own.
-
Unpack only
You packed it. We put it away and take the cardboard with us.
-
Pack and unpack
Both ends, same crew. Nobody re-learns your kitchen at the other address.
-
Materials only
Cartons and wrap dropped to your door. You do the rest.
-
Office pack
Crates and labels for staff desks, delivered ahead of the move window.
The half of the job everyone forgets to book
Packing has a deadline, so it gets done. Unpacking does not, which is why cartons are still in the spare room at Christmas.
We unpack into the cupboards, not onto the floor. Crockery into the kitchen, clothes onto the rail, beds made up. You tell us where things live and the crew put them there.
In a Melbourne tower this matters more than people expect. Your loading dock window is fixed. A slow unpack does not just drag on. It runs you out of lift access with cartons still in the corridor.
Then there is the cardboard. A three-bedroom move makes more of it than any kerbside bin will take. Victorian councils are mid-change on bins too, with a separate glass stream rolling out through 2027. We come back and collect the flattened cartons.
How packing and moving is priced
Packing is charged hourly alongside the move. What changes the hours is how much you own, not how big the house is.
-
Packers
1 to 3
Separate from the moving crew
-
Kitchen
Half to a full day
The slowest room in any house
-
Whole house
1 to 2 days
Usually the day before the truck
-
Materials
Only what you open
The rest comes off the invoice
Where self-packing saves, and where it costs
Books, linen, shoes and the garage are worth doing yourself. They are slow, not skilled, and the hours add up fast at our rate.
The kitchen is the opposite. It is the room people start on and give up in. It also holds almost everything breakable you own. If you only hand over one room, hand over that one.
What affects your quote
-
How much you own
Volume, not bedrooms. Two people fill very different houses.
-
Fragile load
Glass, crockery, art and collections slow everything down.
-
Access
Stairs and a long carry change the carton size and the crew.
-
Timing
Packing the day before costs less than packing on the morning.
-
Unpacking
Into cupboards takes longer than onto benches. Say which you want.
-
Part or full
Every room you do yourself comes off the hours.
Proper cartons, not supermarket boxes
Book and tea chest cartons
Small for heavy, large for light. Doubled base on anything carrying weight.
Port-a-robes
Hanging rail inside. Clothes go in on the hanger and come out ready.
Celled glass cartons
Dividers so nothing touches. For stemware, tumblers and anything with a lid.
Picture and screen packs
Adjustable flat packs with corner protection for art, mirrors and TVs.
How a pack and move runs
-
01 Step
Tell us what you own
Rooms, rough volume, and anything fragile worth flagging. Written price back the same morning.
-
02 Step
Cartons arrive early
Dropped a few days ahead so you can start on whatever you want to do yourself.
-
03 Step
Packing day
Usually the day before the truck. Everything labelled by room and contents as it goes in.
-
04 Step
Unpack and collect
Cartons emptied into cupboards at the new place. We come back for the flattened empties.
Four things worth knowing before you book packers
-
Our packers, not an agency
On our payroll and police-checked. Strangers go through every drawer you own.
-
Same crew, both ends
The people who packed it unpack it. They know what is in which carton.
-
You pay for what you open
Unused cartons and wrap come straight off the invoice. No minimum spend.
-
We take the cardboard
Flattened empties collected after. You are not driving boxes anywhere.
Packers and movers near you, anywhere in Melbourne
Packing crews run metro wide, seven days. Inner-city jobs get smaller cartons and more crew because of the carry. Outer corridor jobs get an earlier start because of the drive.
