Home Removals in Darwin

Home removals across Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area. Our own crews pack, dismantle, load and rebuild at the other end. $1M cover on every job, hourly rates with no surprises, and a written quote back within two hours.

We run from a depot in Parap. The two things that decide a Darwin move are the external stair and the season, so we settle both before quoting rather than on the morning.

The wet, the dry and the build-up

May to October is the easy window. From October the humidity climbs and the same house takes longer, which is why we push for early starts. In the wet the risk moves to driveways, especially out in the rural area.

None of it stops a move. It changes the start time and the crew size, so we ask for your date before quoting rather than after.

  • Early starts in the build-up

A 6am start gets the heavy carrying done before the worst of the heat. Ask for one. It costs nothing.

  • Old boxes fail here

Cartons that sat in a humid garage will not hold what you packed. We bring new ones and check the bottoms.

  • Wrapped before it rains

Blankets and wrap go on inside the house, not on the driveway. Rain delays a load. It should not soak one.

  • Cyclone warnings stop work

We will not put a crew and your furniture on the road during a warning. The booking moves free.

Homes we move across Darwin and Palmerston

Up here the building sets the crew size as much as the contents do.

  • Elevated homes

The external stair decides the day. Tell us about it when you enquire.

  • Ground-level brick

Cyclone-code slab homes. Usually the quickest houses we move.

  • Apartments & units

Darwin City, Cullen Bay, Nightcliff. Lift and dock bookings still apply.

  • Palmerston homes

Rosebery, Zuccoli, Durack, Bakewell. Newer estates, tighter driveways.

  • Rural blocks

Humpty Doo and Howard Springs. Long driveways the wet can close.

  • Defence housing

Posting cycles book out fast. Get a date in early.

  • Townhouses

Shared driveways and narrow internal stairs through Stuart Park and Parap.

  • Share house rooms

One bedroom out of a share house, priced as the small job it is.

Moving in or out on a Defence posting

Darwin moves in waves. When posting notices land, a large part of the city books the same fortnight. Hold a date as soon as you have one, even a provisional one, because changing it costs nothing with 24 hours notice.

One thing to be straight about. If your relocation runs under a Defence contract, the appointed provider handles that move and we are not it. We handle everything outside the contract: items not covered, a partial move, storage between houses, or the whole job if you are moving privately or staying in Darwin after posting out.

Company transfers work the same way. If your employer is paying, we invoice them directly.

    Three for most elevated homes

  • Hours

    Seven days

The cheapest hour is the first one

Box the kitchen the night before and stack everything in one room near the door. On an elevated house that habit regularly saves an hour, because the crew carries down the stair instead of hunting through rooms.

What affects your quote

  • Stairs

One external stair can add an hour at each end.

  • Season

Build-up moves run slower. An early start claws most of it back.

  • Volume

How much there is, and how much is boxed when we arrive.

  • Driveway

Soft or unsealed rural driveways may need a smaller truck.

  • Distance

Inside Darwin, out to Palmerston, or further rural.

  • Packing

Whether you pack, we pack, or we do the kitchen only.

The right truck for the house and the driveway

Size is half the question. The other half is whether it gets down your driveway in February.

Small trucks

Units, single rooms, share house moves.

Medium trucks

Two and three-bedroom homes.

Large trucks

Four bedrooms and up, or a full house in one run.

Rural access

Where a big truck will not fit, we shuttle smaller loads.

How your house move runs

  1. 01 Step

    Send the details

Both addresses, bedrooms, your date, and whether either place is elevated.

  2. 02 Step

    We set the crew

Stairs and season decide two movers or three. We say which and why.

  3. 03 Step

    Wrapped and loaded

Blankets on, floors protected, early start if the humidity warrants it.

  4. 04 Step

    Placed and rebuilt

Beds rebuilt, boxes in the right rooms, blankets off before we go.

Four things most Darwin removalists won't give you

  1. Truck tracking

See where the truck is instead of holding a morning open.

  2. On-time guarantee

A firm arrival time. In the build-up a late start costs the cool hours.

  3. No cancellation fees

Reschedule with 24 hours notice, no charge.

  4. Our own crew

Payrolled movers who know which driveways go soft.

We move houses anywhere in Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area

Our depot is on Salonika Street in Parap, so the city, the northern suburbs and Palmerston are all short runs. Rural blocks get one extra question at quote time: how long and how sealed is the driveway.

Home removals questions, answered

How much do removalists cost in Darwin?
Hourly on crew and truck, two-hour minimum. What moves the total is stairs, how much is boxed when we arrive, and the season. Send both addresses, bedrooms and your date for a written quote in two hours.
Are you insured if something gets damaged?
Yes. $1M goods in transit and $1M public liability on every job, included. Those are two different things: transit covers your belongings, public liability covers damage to the building. Ask for the certificate any time and we will send it.
What isn't covered by your insurance?
The exclusions are set out on your quote, and you should read that section rather than take our word for it. The one that catches most people across this industry is boxes the customer packed themselves, because nobody can verify what went in or how. If a carton matters, let us pack it.
Do you charge by the hour or a fixed price?
Hourly for local Darwin moves, with a two-hour minimum. Hourly means you pay for the time actually used instead of a padded worst-case number. Interstate runs are quoted as a fixed job, not by the hour.
When does the clock start and stop?
It starts when the crew arrives at your first address and stops when the last item is placed at the second one. Travel between the two addresses is on the clock. Our drive from the Parap depot to you is not.
How long will my move take?
A two-bedroom unit is usually three to five hours. A three-bedroom house is most of a day. Add an hour at each end for a long external stair, and add more again in the build-up, which is why we push for early starts.
How far ahead should I book?
Three to four weeks is comfortable in Darwin, which is longer than you would need down south. Posting changeovers and the end of the dry are the two periods that book out completely, so hold a date as soon as you have one.
Is there a cancellation fee if my date changes?
No, provided you give us 24 hours notice. Reschedule as many times as you need to. Settlement dates and handover dates slip constantly and we would rather move your booking than charge you for it.
What won't you move?
Gas bottles, fuel, paint, aerosols, chemicals, ammunition and anything perishable. Pets and cars go with specialist transporters, not in our truck. Keep cash, jewellery and documents with you rather than on the truck.
Can you take my pot plants?
Around Darwin and Palmerston, yes. Interstate is a different matter, because quarantine rules restrict plants and soil moving across borders and the NT has its own controls both ways. If plants are coming interstate, check with NT Biosecurity before you book, not after.
Do you take the beds apart and put them back together?
Yes, and it is included. Beds, wardrobes and dining tables come apart at the old place and go back together at the new one. Complicated flat-pack wall units are the exception, because some of them do not survive a second build.
Can I pack my own boxes?
Of course, and plenty of people do to save hours. Two things to know: boxes you packed yourself sit outside the cover, and old cartons stored in a Darwin garage often will not hold what you put in them. Use new boxes for anything breakable.
My house is up on stilts. Is that a problem?
No, but it is the thing we most need to know before quoting. A long external stair usually means three movers instead of two, which works out faster and cheaper than two people doing it slowly. Mention the undercroft if that needs clearing too.
Should I move in the wet or the dry?
The dry, if you have the choice. The rate is identical either way, but crews work faster from May to October and the same house can come in under a build-up move. If your date is fixed, book the earliest start we have.
What happens if there's a cyclone warning?
We do not put a crew and your furniture on the road during a warning, and the booking moves at no charge. If you are trying to shift things somewhere safer ahead of a system, call early. That window closes fast.
Do you go out to the rural area and remote communities?
The rural area, routinely: Humpty Doo, Howard Springs, Berry Springs, Noonamah and Livingstone. Further out to Batchelor, Adelaide River and remote communities by arrangement, quoted on the run rather than the hour. Wet season road access decides what is possible.
Do you move Defence postings?
Plenty of them. If your relocation runs under a Defence contract, the appointed provider handles that move and we are not it. Everything outside the contract is ours, including partial moves, storage between houses and private relocations.
Do I need to be there on the day?
Someone does, at both ends, to give access and say where things go. It does not have to be you. Give us their name and number when you book so the crew is not standing at a locked door.
