Appliance & Fridge Movers in Darwin

Searching fridge movers in Darwin usually means one item and one trip rather than a whole house. We take single jobs, and the full kitchen and laundry on a move. Retailers deliver but their drivers are not tradespeople and connect nothing, which is the gap whitegoods removalists fill.

Disconnected at the old place, carried upright, reconnected to existing taps and outlets and run-tested before we go. Where NT law needs a licensed trade, you hear that before the day rather than on it.

What an appliance job includes

What washing machine movers and fridge jobs actually involve, start to finish.

  • Hoses and pumps drained so nothing leaks into the truck
  • Transit bolts back in on front loaders, or the drum packed if yours are long gone
  • Fridges kept upright rather than laid over, wherever access allows
  • Appliance trolleys and stair gear for an outside flight of steps
  • Fresh inlet hoses wherever the old ones have gone hard
  • Put back onto existing taps, waste and outlets
  • Levelled so nothing walks its way across a tiled laundry
  • A fill, drain and leak check before anyone drives off
  • Door seals checked and reseated, which matters more in this climate
  • Packaging gone, and the old unit taken too if you want

What we connect, and what needs a licensed trade

In the Territory, electrical work sits under the Electrical Safety Act and doing your own unlicensed is illegal. Plumbing and draining work can only be carried out by a plumber holding an advanced tradesman licence from the NT Plumbers and Drainers Licensing Board. Neither rule is about difficulty. It is about a flooded floor or a live chassis.

Plenty of appliance work is neither. Plugging a freestanding oven into the outlet it was built for is a different job from wiring one in. This is the boundary.

We handle

  • Washing machines back onto existing laundry taps
  • Fridges and freezers positioned, levelled and sealed
  • Vented and condenser dryers into an existing outlet
  • Dryer wall brackets supplied and mounted
  • Dishwashers onto a connection point already in place
  • Freestanding ovens into an existing dedicated outlet
  • Microwaves and benchtop appliances of any kind
  • Safe disconnection of anything before a move
  • Transit bolts refitted, hoses drained down
  • Levelling, door reversal and anti-tip fixing

Where the tap, the waste and the outlet already exist, it is nearly always ours to do.

Needs a licensed trade

  • Creating a new water outlet or waste point
  • Any hardwired oven, cooktop or range hood
  • Split system air conditioners, without exception
  • Anything on LPG or gas
  • New or altered circuits and outlets
  • Ducting a range hood out through a wall or roof
  • Plumbed water and ice-maker lines to a fridge
  • Built-in and integrated fit-outs

A hardwired oven needs a licensed electrical worker and a Certificate of Compliance. We name the trade you need and what to ask for, because unlicensed work voids your appliance warranty and your home insurance.

What we take on

  • Washing machines

Bolts in, hoses drained, put back on the taps and run through a cycle.

  • Fridges & freezers

Carried upright, set into the cavity, levelled, seals checked and doors swapped if needed.

  • Dryers

Vented and condenser units, with the wall bracket supplied and mounted.

  • Dishwashers

Back onto a point that already exists. A brand new one needs a plumber.

  • Freestanding ovens

Shifted, set in place, plugged into the existing outlet and anti-tip fixed.

  • Chest freezers

The spare one in the carport, kept upright and given time to settle.

  • Single item delivery

A fridge delivery from a store or a marketplace pickup, as a one-off job.

  • Office appliances

Staff fridges, coffee machines and dishwashers on a commercial move.

How appliance work is priced

Part of the moving quote when it goes with a move. Standalone it is charged per appliance, and a laundry and kitchen in one visit comes in well under separate call-outs.

  • With a move

    Bundled in

Both ends inside the moving quote

  • Standalone

    Per appliance

    Better value several at once

  • Supplied

    Hoses and fittings

Brackets too where they are needed

  • Licensed work

    Referred out

Named before the day, not billed

The cheap version is the expensive one

A badly seated hose does not flood the laundry on day one. It weeps behind the machine for a fortnight, and the first sign is a swollen kickboard or mould up the wall, which in this climate arrives faster than anywhere else.

Hence the fill, drain and leak check before anyone drives off. Ten minutes, and it separates connected from connected properly.

What affects your quote

  • How many

Four in one visit is far cheaper per item than a lone call-out.

  • What is already there

A tap and waste already fitted is a reconnect. Nothing fitted is a plumber.

  • Access

An outside staircase or a tight laundry adds time to every unit.

  • State of the fittings

Hard hoses and seized taps get swapped out instead of reused.

  • The old unit

Hauling it away sits on the quote as its own line, never a surprise.

  • Distance

Darwin and Palmerston against a run out to a rural block.

How it runs

  1. 01 Step

    Tell us what and where

Which appliances, and whether the new place already has the taps, waste and outlets.

  2. 02 Step

    Disconnected and drained

Water out of hoses and pumps, transit bolts back in, fridge doors secured.

  3. 03 Step

    Moved upright

On appliance trolleys, strapped, and kept upright down the stairs wherever we can.

  4. 04 Step

    Reconnected and tested

Levelled, filled, drained, leak-checked, and the old unit taken away if you want.

Four things a delivery driver won't do

  1. We disconnect the old one

Retailers require the old appliance already disconnected, emptied and cleaned before they will touch it.

  2. We reconnect and test

Retail delivery partners are not tradespeople and will not connect anything at all.

  3. No purchase required

We take the old unit away whether or not you bought a new one from anyone.

  4. We say where the line is

You get told which jobs need a licensed trade before the day, not on it.

Darwin appliance questions

How long before I can turn the fridge back on?
Less than you have been told, and it turns on whether it travelled upright. Manufacturers disagree, which is why the internet says twenty four hours and almost no manual does. Fisher and Paykel says ten minutes standing if it was on its side, LG says at least two hours, Samsung nearer four. The reason is compressor oil draining back into the sump, not gas settling. Carried upright, as we do, you can plug it in almost straight away.
Can you lay the fridge down?
We avoid it and plan the route so we do not have to. If a doorway or a stair turn leaves no choice, the side matters. Fisher and Paykel specifies the right-hand side viewed from the front, because of where the compressor oil sits. The wrong side makes the migration worse, and then it needs standing time before switch-on.
Do I need to defrost it first?
Yes, turn it off about twenty four hours ahead so the evaporator clears. Drain the drip tray and dry the inside properly. Up here that last step is the one people skip and regret, because a sealed damp fridge through a Darwin day comes off the truck smelling like a shed. Going into storage rather than a kitchen? Leave the doors propped open.
Will the fridge get condensation or mould in the wet?
Condensation around a fridge is normal in high humidity and is usually a seal question. We check the door gasket sits flat and reseat it on reconnection, because a cracked or lifted gasket lets warm air in every cycle. We also keep the manufacturer clearances, commonly ten centimetres at the back and sides and five on top, since blocked airflow is what puts moisture under the crisper drawers.
What are transit bolts and do they matter?
Front loaders only. They lock the suspended drum so the springs cannot unhook and the dampers are not hammered. We refit them where they exist. If yours went missing years ago that is no reason to cancel, since replacements are a few dollars a bolt and packing the drum is an accepted fallback. Damage from moving without them is usually latent, turning up later as bearing noise. The opposite mistake matters more: never run the machine with the bolts still in.
Do you connect the washing machine and dishwasher, or do I need a plumber?
We reconnect to a tap, a waste point and an outlet that are already there. Anything that creates or alters a water or waste connection is plumbing work, and in the Territory only a plumber holding an advanced tradesman licence from the NT Plumbers and Drainers Licensing Board may do it. A washing machine back onto the same laundry taps is ours. A dishwasher into a kitchen with no existing point is not.
What about the oven or cooktop?
The line is clean in the NT. A freestanding oven plugging into an existing dedicated outlet is not electrical work, so we move it, position it and plug it in. A hardwired oven or cooktop is licensed work and needs a Certificate of Compliance from the electrical worker who does it, and doing it yourself is illegal here. Most Darwin homes run LPG bottles rather than mains gas, and anything on gas is out of scope either way.
Can you move my split system air conditioner?
No, and no removalist legally can. Handling refrigerant without the right ARC licence is a strict liability offence under Commonwealth regulations, and taking out or reinstalling a split system needs a full refrigeration licence, or the restricted split systems licence for single-head units under 18kW, usually plus an electrician. One more thing before you pay to move one: manufacturers commonly treat the warranty as valid only at the first place it was installed, so relocating can end it whoever does the work.
Can you reconnect the fridge water line or ice maker?
Only where the new place already has a fridge water point, and even then use a plumber if your model calls for one. Fisher and Paykel requires its ice and water models to be installed by an authorised plumber or trained technician, because bad plumbing here floods a kitchen quietly. Worth knowing in Darwin too: the same maker says not to site a filter where ambient can exceed 38 degrees, which rules out plenty of un-airconditioned laundries and carports in October.
Do you take the old appliance away?
Yes, and unlike a retailer we do not need you to have bought a new one or to have disconnected it first. Where it ends up differs by station in the rural area. Humpty Doo takes gassed appliances such as fridges, freezers and air conditioners with fees applying, and degassed ones if you supply a professional degassing certificate. Howard Springs and Berry Springs take whitegoods like ovens and washing machines but do not list gassed appliances at all.
What if the new place does not match?
It happens more than anything else on moving day. No dishwasher point, a floor waste where the old place had a standpipe, hose cocks spaced differently, no dedicated outlet for the oven. Send a photo of the laundry and kitchen connections beforehand and we will say what plugs straight in and what needs a trade booked. Finding out at four in the afternoon with a truck outside is the version nobody wants.
Who is liable if it gets damaged or leaks later?
Two different things, constantly confused. Damage while the appliance is on the truck is a transit question, covered by our $1M public liability and transit cover. A leak appearing a week after reconnection is a workmanship question, and under Australian Consumer Law the service must be carried out with due care and skill. Ask any mover which of the two they cover, because plenty quote insurance as though it answers both.
