How we run interstate

Every interstate move starts or ends in Sydney

Most interstate removals in Australia are relays. Your load is picked up by one company, dropped at a depot, transferred to a second truck, and unloaded by people who have never spoken to you. Every handover is a chance for something to get lost, crushed or delayed — and when it does, nobody owns it.

We run a single hub out of Parramatta instead of depots in eight cities. Your furniture is loaded once and unloaded once, by the same crew, with the same coordinator across the whole job. That’s the reason every long-distance route we run has Sydney at one end — it’s a deliberate limit, not a gap in coverage.

Weekly scheduled departures between Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin, plus long-distance runs across regional NSW.

Built for Sydney

Loading out of a Sydney apartment, unloading in another state

An interstate move has two buildings and two sets of rules, and only one of them is in Sydney. The Sydney end we know — the towers, the walk-ups, the terraces and which councils want a permit for the truck. The far end we confirm before departure, because a lift that isn't booked in Melbourne costs the same day it would cost here.

Tell your coordinator both buildings when you book. They'll work backwards from the strictest set of rules, sort the paperwork at both ends, and flag anything that has to be dealt with before the truck is loaded rather than after it has left the state.

Certificates of Currency at both ends

Most strata buildings won't let a removalist start without written proof of public liability insurance. We supply the certificate to both building managers before the day, not on the morning.

Lift and dock windows in two cities

Service lifts and loading docks are booked in blocks with a hard cut-off. We book the Sydney window around the departure and confirm the delivery window with the receiving building before we load.

Quarantine rules across the border

WA, SA, Tasmania and the NT control what crosses their borders — plants, soil, potted plants and some produce. We go through the list for your destination before packing day so nothing is seized in transit.

Access the truck can actually reach

A semi that fits a Sydney industrial street may not fit the destination driveway. We check access at the far end while quoting and plan a shuttle vehicle in up front if the street needs one.

Every size of move

Interstate removals we handle

Full household relocations

Three, four and five-bedroom homes moved in a single load, with nothing left behind for a second run.

Apartment & small home moves

Studios and one to two-bedroom units, priced on the space you actually use.

Part loads & small consignments

A room, a few pieces of furniture or a single item. You pay for your share of the truck.

Backloading

Space on a truck already heading your way. Cheaper, with a wider delivery window.

Office & commercial

Interstate business relocations planned around your trading hours at both ends.

Regional NSW long-distance

Sydney out to the New England, Central West and North West, on the same fixed-price basis.

Storage-in-transit

When the two dates don’t line up, we hold everything and deliver when you’re ready.

Piano & heavy items

Pianos, safes and pool tables crated and secured for the long haul.

Backloading

Pay for the space you use, not the whole truck

Trucks don’t come home empty by choice. When one of ours is returning to Sydney with room left in it, that space is worth far less to us than a full load — so we sell it cheaper.

Backloading is the same truck, the same crew and the same insurance as a standard interstate removal. The only real difference is flexibility: instead of choosing the departure date, you fit into a run that’s already scheduled, and the delivery window is wider.

It suits people whose dates can move by a few days, part loads too small to justify a dedicated truck, and anyone moving into Sydney from another capital. If your dates are locked to a settlement, a standard interstate booking is the safer choice and we’ll say so.

Tell your coordinator you’re flexible on timing and they’ll quote both ways, so you can see the difference before deciding.

Pricing

How much interstate removals cost

Interstate removals are quoted as a fixed price, not by the hour. Once we know the volume and the route, the number is settled before we load — so a slow day at either end costs you nothing.

Volume

Flexibility

A backload on a wider window costs less than a dedicated departure date.

Why cheap interstate quotes get expensive

The lowest interstate quote is usually a relay: your load changes trucks once or twice, sits in a depot in between, and the price climbs once someone measures the volume properly at pickup. We measure before quoting and we don’t transfer loads, which is why our number is the number.

Ask any interstate removalist two questions before you book: does my load change trucks, and is this price fixed or an estimate. The answers explain most of the gap between quotes.

Fleet & equipment

Built for long-distance, not just across town

An interstate load spends days on the road. What holds up over 900 kilometres is different from what survives a trip to the next suburb.

Long-haul trucks

8–10 tonne vehicles running scheduled capital city routes, loaded once and sealed.

No depot transfers

Your furniture isn’t unloaded and reloaded halfway. One truck, one crew, one journey.

GPS-tracked

Follow your load across the country and know the day before it arrives.

Secured for distance

Blankets, straps, edge protection and load bars so nothing shifts on the highway.

How it works

How an interstate removal runs

  1. Tell us the volume

Room-by-room list, both addresses and your dates. Written fixed-price quote back within two hours.

  2. Lock in the run

Your coordinator books you onto a scheduled departure and confirms the delivery window in writing.

  3. Load and depart

Everything wrapped, inventoried and loaded in Sydney. Track the truck from your phone the whole way.

  4. Delivery

The same crew unloads, furniture is rebuilt, and the inventory is checked off with you before they leave.

Why UNN

Four things most interstate removalists won’t give you

  1. Real-time GPS tracking

Follow your load across the country instead of ringing a call centre for an update.

  2. On-time guarantee

An agreed delivery window in writing, not a vague fortnight.

  3. No cancellation fees

Settlement moved? Reschedule at no charge. Dates slip and we plan for it.

  4. One dedicated coordinator

The same person in Sydney and at delivery. You never re-explain your move.

Routes

Where we run from Sydney

Weekly scheduled departures to every mainland capital, plus long-distance runs across regional NSW. Every route has Sydney at one end, which is how we keep the same crew on your load from pickup to delivery.

Sydney to Melbourne

Our busiest corridor and the most-booked removalist Sydney to Melbourne run we operate. Multiple departures most weeks.

Sydney to Brisbane

Weekly up the coast, with drops through the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers on the way.

Sydney to Gold Coast

Removalists Sydney to Gold Coast on the same weekly schedule as the Brisbane run.

Sydney to Canberra

Close enough for a single-day run. Popular with relocating staff and government moves.

Sydney to Adelaide

Direct across, no transfers and no depot handovers along the way.

Sydney to Perth

The long one. Scheduled departures and a firm delivery window agreed before we load.

Sydney to Darwin

Booked in advance around our northern runs. Volume confirmed early so the price holds.

Backloading into Sydney

Moving the other way? Take the space on a truck already returning and pay for what you use.

Interstate office moves

Commercial relocations between Sydney and any capital, scheduled around your trading hours.

Regional NSW long-distance runs

Long-distance doesn’t have to cross a border. We run the same fixed-price service out to regional NSW, where a lot of removalists either won’t go or charge a metro day rate for the whole job.

  • Sydney to Armidale removalists
  • Sydney to Inverell removalists
  • Sydney to Glen Innes removalists
  • Sydney to Gunnedah removalists
  • Sydney to Cowra removalists
  • Sydney to Forbes removalists
  • Sydney to Tamworth & Dubbo
  • Sydney to Orange & Bathurst
  • Sydney to Newcastle & the Hunter

Packages

Packages that cover interstate moves

Compare all packages

Interstate moves are quoted as a fixed price on any package, set by volume, route and access at both ends. No depot fees, because there are no depots. Complete a move and credit is added to your UNN account — up to $50, worth face value against any future service.

Need packing materials?

Interstate loads need better cartons than a local move. Heavy-duty boxes, bubble wrap, mattress covers, packing paper and tape, delivered before your departure date.

Questions

Interstate removals questions, answered

How much do interstate removals cost?
Interstate removals are quoted as a fixed price based on the volume of your load, the route and the access at both ends. Sydney to Melbourne or Canberra costs considerably less per cubic metre than Perth or Darwin. Send us a room-by-room list and both addresses and you’ll have a written fixed-price quote within two hours.
Is the price fixed or an estimate?
Fixed. We measure the volume before quoting, so the number you agree to is the number you pay. The common problem with cheap interstate quotes is that they’re estimates that get re-measured at pickup, once you’ve already committed.
How long does interstate delivery take?
It depends on the route. Sydney to Canberra can be a single day; Melbourne and Brisbane are usually a few days; Perth and Darwin take longer because of the distance and the departure schedule. You get a delivery window confirmed in writing before we load, not a vague guess.
What is a delivery window?
A range of days during which your load will arrive, agreed before departure. Interstate runs can’t promise an exact hour days out, so the window is how it’s scheduled honestly. Your coordinator narrows it to a day and a time as the truck gets close, and you can track it the whole way.
Do interstate moves have to start or end in Sydney?
Yes. We run one hub in Parramatta rather than depots in every capital, which is how the same crew loads and unloads your furniture. Every route we run has Sydney at one end. If your move is Perth to Brisbane, we’re not the right company and we’ll tell you that on the first call.
What is backloading?
Space on a truck already scheduled to travel your route. It’s the same truck, crew and insurance as a standard interstate removal, and it costs less because you’re filling capacity that would otherwise travel empty. The trade-off is flexibility: you fit the existing run rather than choosing the date, and the delivery window is wider.
Do you move to regional NSW as well as interstate?
Yes, on the same fixed-price basis. We run long-distance to Armidale, Inverell, Glen Innes, Gunnedah, Tamworth, Dubbo, Cowra, Forbes, Orange, Bathurst, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains. A lot of Sydney removalists either won’t travel that far or charge a metro day rate for it.
Can you send just a few items interstate?
Yes. Part loads are priced on the space you use rather than a full truck, so a single room, a few pieces of furniture or one large item is worth quoting. Combined with a backload it’s usually the cheapest way to move a small volume a long way.
Can you store my things between pickup and delivery?
Yes. Settlement dates rarely line up across two states, so storage-in-transit is common on interstate moves. We hold your load in secure storage and deliver when you’re ready, with no lock-in period.
Are my belongings insured on an interstate move?
Yes. Goods-in-transit and public liability cover apply for the whole journey, not just the local legs. We also check a full inventory at pickup and again at delivery, which matters far more on a multi-day move than on a trip across town. For high-value items, tell your coordinator and we’ll discuss additional cover.
Is there anything that can’t cross state borders?
Yes, and it catches people out. Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory all run quarantine controls on plants, soil, potted plants, some produce and occasionally used outdoor furniture with soil on it. We also can’t carry dangerous goods anywhere — gas bottles, fuel, paint, aerosols, chemicals or ammunition. Your coordinator will go through the list for your destination before packing day.
Do you move offices and businesses interstate?
Yes. Interstate commercial relocations are scheduled around your trading hours at both ends, with workstation dismantling, IT handling, crate supply and a written move plan. Certificates of insurance and dock bookings are arranged as part of the job.
How far in advance should I book an interstate move?
Three to six weeks is comfortable, and longer for Perth and Darwin because those runs are less frequent. End-of-month dates and the December to January period fill first. If you need something sooner, ask about a backload — short-notice space comes up more often than a dedicated departure does.
Can I track my furniture while it’s in transit?
Yes. Every truck is GPS-tracked and you get a live link, so you can see where your load is at any point in the journey rather than calling to ask.
Do I need to be there for pickup and delivery?
Someone needs to be at both ends to check the inventory and direct where things go. It doesn’t have to be you — plenty of customers have a family member, friend or agent handle one end. Tell your coordinator who it will be and we’ll deal with them directly.
